If you prefer a versatile shoe that fits a variety of workouts, you're probably familiar with Nike's Metcon shoe line. The latest update, the Metcon 4, was a big favorite with our test panel, who said it's the perfect shoe for CrossFit and other multi-stage workouts. The soft heel cup and stable rubber were two features that particularly charmed the testers. The same heel cup can be found in the new Metcon x Free, a shoe that promises even greater versatility thanks to increased flexibility.

- By combining stability with inspiration from Metcon in the heel and flexibility from Nike Free in the forefoot, you get a shoe that is flexible enough in the forefoot to run fast sprints in, but stable enough to run squats with weights, explains Nils Spetz, product specialist at Nike and continues:

- "In order to make the shoe as versatile as possible, the product developers have based it on five different exercises - squats, sprints, rope climbing, box jumps and skate jumps - that activate the body's three energy systems and large parts of the body's muscle groups. The shoe is designed to work for all of these exercises simultaneously without the need to change shoes.

Different energy systems refer to the systems that the body uses to release energy; in short, they are linked to the type of work the muscle has to do. They are differently important depending on the sport, but for good health you should train all systems during your training. Metcon x Free is thus developed to be used regardless of which system is running.

It has a durability and stability that can withstand intense training while being light and flexible enough to move naturally thanks to laser-cut flex grooves in the outsole. You don't feel enclosed in this training shoe, but rather soft, mobile and free.

What does the shoe have that we don't know about from any other Nike training shoe before?

- Apart from being a brand new model with a new way of thinking about training shoes, the way the last is made is a little different from other models. This design means that the foot sits in the midsole and provides better support around the arch and around the foot.

Who should try this shoe?

- Anyone who does a lot of different exercises at the gym and wants a versatile shoe for a wide variety of exercises will love the new Metcon x Free.
