Sweden's best junior: How to become a better golfer

Filippa Möörk, 18, clinched the JSM gold medal in golf after a brilliant final 18 holes at Edenhof GK in Uppsala on Sunday.

She went -7 (65) and not only made it to the top of the leaderboard but also set a magnificent course record.

- "On the last day everything was right, I must say. I made two eagles and six birdies, in addition to that I managed to get the ball when I needed it. It was a lot of fun," she says.

Möörk was in fourth place before the last day's play and had no idea how her opponents were doing on the course during the last round.

- "I just concentrated on my game, that's what I can influence. But when I put the eagle on 17th, I started thinking that I should be in a good position now, that the others must have played well if they were to keep up with me," says the Sunnetje girl who plays for Karlstads GK.

They did not and Filippa Möörk took the biggest victory of the season. And there may be more, next weekend the JSM in teams awaits and the following weekend the team European Championship in the Czech Republic. Fun elements in an otherwise hard training period for the new JSM winner.

- "Now in the summer I train golf six hours a day, six days a week. In addition, I add a few hours of fitness training every day. It's important to take advantage of the summer when conditions are at their best here at home. golfvinnare

Hands full. Filippa Möörk next to the winner of the boys' class, Felix Pålsson from Lidingö GK.

During the semesters, she trains around 20 hours a week, but it would be nice to have more if she could decide. In the fall, she starts her last year of high school in Karlstad, then college in the United States awaits.

- "I want to be the best in the world and this is the smartest way to go. In the USA I can play in good conditions all year round and try different types of golf.

According to Filippa Möörk herself, the long game from the tee is one of her strengths, but she sees the most potential for development in the short game.

- "Chipping around the green and from the bunker is what I need to work on the most, it's a bit in focus now during the summer when the courses are so good.

That's how you hone your game. Filippa Möörk's tips for becoming a better golfer.

- "Firstly, you should take some lessons with a coach, make sure the basics are right, how you hold the club and stand over the ball. I work on these things every week.

- Don't think about the score when you play. Don't go around thinking about the points at stake on every hole. That just locks you in. You add up the score after the last hole.

- Play simple. This is related to the second tip but can be said again. Don't chase difficult shots just because you have the score in your head all the time.

- Improve your putting. The green is often the deciding factor. It is so important to make the right putts.
