What you need to consider when buying winter overalls for kids
Soon it will be time to buy winter overalls for the kids. But how do you know which one is right? And how do you take care of it for a long life? Read our guide to avoid making the wrong purchase this fall.
Didriksons are experts in outerwear for kids. Known for their quality-assured children's overalls, they know what you need to look for in your next overall purchase.
One of the most important things to remember, according to Julia Kalhom at Didriksons, is not to buy too big an overall. "It doesn't matter how good the overalls are if the child can't move in them.
- Children become immobile in clothes that are too big, which contributes to them becoming stationary and cold. "All our overalls are extend size and can be extended up to one size in the sleeves and legs," she says.
Once you've found the right size, it's a good idea to make sure the overalls have clear reflectors. It's important that the child is clearly visible in the winter darkness. Other details to look for are: a removable hood that can be detached if the child gets caught in something, PFC-free materials without chemicals, and that the overalls have reinforcement in exposed areas and taped seams.
- A waterproof material is not enough for the product to be 100% waterproof. Water can penetrate in all sorts of places. It is therefore important that the construction is well thought out and all seams are taped," says Julia Kalholm.
How do I determine the durability of an overall?
- "It's very much about how the overall is constructed. We always choose to work with durable materials, but it is also important that the design is well thought out so that the garment is as durable as required. Our overalls have reinforcement on the knees and buttocks, seams that are twisted on the legs to avoid chafing and pinching, and removed seams on the shoulders and buttocks.
What do I really get for my money when I buy an overall from you?
- You get an incredible amount of value for money. We are experts in "protection against the elements" and all our winter overalls are 100% waterproof with taped seams.
What is the best way to take care of my overalls?
- Wipe it down after a dirty day of play. Wash it in a 40 degree synthetic wash when needed, but not too often. Use low heat in a drying cabinet as this will wear out both the material and the taped seams. Our overalls have smart hanging loops at the waist, so you can hang and dry them more efficiently. After washing, we advise ironing the garment on a low heat as this reactivates the water repellent finish," she says:
- "If you take care of your garments, they can be passed on to more siblings or friends' children and this is very important for us as a brand. Our products should last for a long time and be passed on, and we want to move away from today's throw-away behavior of clothes.
