Ingemar Stenmark's best skiing tips
Slalom hero Ingemar Stenmark has skied all over the world. Here are his tips for the best skiing in the world.
Skiing legend Ingemar Stenmark, who has two Olympic and five World Cup gold medals to his name, still skis a lot. He spends about four weeks a year skiing, usually in Ramundberget, Tärnaby and somewhere in the Alps, usually Verbier. What is your favorite ski resort of all categories?
- It's hard to compare ski resorts but Japanese ski resorts usually have good snow, which I like, but the trip there is long. It is also in Japan that I have experienced the best off-piste. Verbier is fantastic but too many people and sometimes bad snow in the valleys. I would probably choose Italy, the Dolomites, because of the good food," says Ingemar Stenmark.
Where do I experience the best skiing in Sweden?
- Hemavan Tärnaby for the total skiing experience with alpine, cross-country, touring and heliskiing.
Where would you recommend a total beginner to learn to ski?
- On a flat slope with good snow!
Your best tip for those who ski one week a year?
- Buy your own boots that don't hurt your feet.
What do you drink at the after-ski?
- I rarely go to an after-ski, but if I do, I drink tea, glühwein or a beer, depending on whether it's inside or outside. I don't like to drink a lot of alcohol at that time.
Ingemar Stenmark has joined the company Spektrum, because he loves theras goggles. "They fit well and have nice lenses," he says.
