Buy the right winter jacket for your child
A winter jacket is the most important purchase you make for your child this winter. Here are 7 tips on how to choose the right one.
Durable quality and hard-wearing materials are essential when it comes to winter jackets for children. But there are other tips that are worth taking an extra look at before making the purchase.- "Children should be able to go on adventures without getting wet and cold, and the clothes should be durable and look good at the same time," says Melanie Lindblom, junior designer at 8848 Altitude and an expert in winter jackets for children.
7 tips on how to choose the right winter jacket for your child
1. PROTECTION AGAINST WIND AND WATER
There are many jackets with water-repellent properties, which usually work very well in the fall. But when winter comes and your child is going to be outside a lot, you need to make sure that the jacket is made of a completely windproof and waterproof material and has taped seams, so that the water doesn't find its way in anywhere.
2. BREATHABLE MATERIAL
Since children are constantly on the move during play, a lot of excess heat and sweat is transferred to their bodies. In this case, outerwear made of functional and highly breathable materials is a good idea, as otherwise the sweat condenses on the inside of the jacket and makes the child wet and cold.
3. THE RIGHT WARMTH
How much does your child move? Really warm jackets work perfectly for more sedentary children who are not so steady on their feet, while those who move around more need a flexible jacket that is medium warm. Keep in mind that the thicker the jacket, the warmer it will be. More dense down and technically advanced insulation will affect the warmth of the jacket.
4. REMOVABLE HOOD
A hood should always be removable. Why? Well, when your child is playing or doing some outdoor activity, there is a risk that he or she might get stuck with the hood somewhere. That's why it's perfect if the hood can be removed and put on using buttons or Velcro, for example.
5. MANY SMART POCKETS
Something that can easily be forgotten when your child tries on a jacket is where and how many pockets the jacket has. There are many things that children need to keep track of when playing, from mittens to cell phones and home keys. So one tip is to make sure the jacket has plenty of pockets.
6. CHOOSE THE RIGHT SIZE
The phrase "have something to grow in" is both economical and environmentally friendly. But your child who is running around in a jacket that is way too big might have preferred a smaller size. Read the size guide instructions and measure at home, it's worth it in the end. Torn between two sizes? Choose the one closest to your child's measurements.
7. LET THE KIDS BE INVOLVED!
While it may be easiest to order outerwear for your child without their input, the fact is that your child will probably like the jacket even more if they are involved in the decision-making process. Let him or her choose the model or color from your selection. It will be appreciated!
