OT Comp - Off Trail Competition! When you run, and swim, in extreme conditions, it is important to feel safe and know that your equipment withstands the pressure. This was the starting point when we started the work of developing a perfect off-trail shoe, so we teamed up with Michelin Technical Outsoles to create a flexible lightweight outsole that had a grip that satisfied both orientation, OCR and Swimrun practitioners - ie a awesome grip and adaptability to a variety of surfaces. The studs' design is inspired by Michelin's popular and rewritten mountain bike and motorcycle tires - Wild Mud and Starcross 5. The studs are designed for maximum penetration of clay in the hunt for solid ground and grip. The small difference in height, which is built into the stud itself, makes this possible. At the height of the arch, the appearance of the studs is a little different to provide stability, control and grip on the obstacles such as roots, branches and stones to be forced. The base of the outsole, the part of the outsole that is attached to the midsole, is made with Michelin's Fiber Lite Technology, a construction that enables extremely light weight through a very durable and durable textile layer. Michelin's Fiber Lite Technology comes from Michelin's long experience in tire manufacturing, where part of the tire design is made of textile fibers. These surfaces are easily recognizable on the outsole where the fabric is visible in the submerged surfaces. The rubber used in the Salming OT Comp outsole is Michelin's OCX - Extreme Outdoor Compound - which gives an extremely good grip on slippery cliffs thanks to its sticky rubber compound. The upper of the shoe has a flexible lightweight construction where the mesh provides both good ventilation while having an excellent drainage ability for Swimrun. The side surfaces that are exposed to the rough treatment of the terrain have a RocShield surface as reinforcement. The midsole has Salming's DNA integrated in the form of the Torsion Guidance System 62/75 ° (TGS62 / 75 °), which in short aims to add stability to the back parts of the foot and flexibility in the forefoot by following the foot's movement pattern. Read more at salmingrunning.com The midsole's shock absorption is spelled RunLite ™ and in Salming OT Comp's case is a thin responsive midsole that together with the thin outsole allows the brain to feel and read the surface properly (See Salming Running Wheel video on salmingrunning.com and the piece Proprioception ) but at the same time with sufficient shock-absorbing ability to give you a comfortable run. Drop is 4mm. Athletes and Salming Ambassadors who have been involved in the test program of OT Comp and who have contributed valuable input are the world champions in orienteering - Daniel Hubman Switzerland and Fredrik Bakkman Sweden. On the Swimrun side, the triathlete, health author and debater Jonas Colting has participated.

Tips and tricks about running shoes

Cushioning - What to think about

When referring to running shoes, dampening describes the ability of the shoe to absorb impact shock and reduce vibrations. Essentially, it's the shoe's cushioning system working its magic.

Here's a breakdown of dampening in running shoes:

Impact: When your foot strikes the ground while running, a significant force travels up your leg.
Cushioning: The midsole of your shoe, typically made from shock-absorbing materials like EVA foam or gels, absorbs this impact force.
Reduced Vibration: By absorbing the force, the shoe minimizes vibrations that can travel up your bones and muscles. This helps reduce stress on your joints and muscles, leading to a more comfortable run.

Not all shoes offer the same level of cushioning. Here are some things to consider:

Midsole material: Softer and thicker midsoles generally provide more cushioning.
Shoe type: Cushioned running shoes prioritize cushioning with a focus on shock absorption.
Your needs: If you experience joint pain or run on hard surfaces, a shoe with good dampening might be beneficial.

Drop - What is it?

In running shoes, drop refers to the difference in height between the heel and the forefoot of the shoe. It's typically measured in millimeters (mm).

Here's a quick breakdown:

Higher drop (usually above 6mm): Creates a more angled platform, often preferred by heel strikers for a more comfortable initial impact.

Lower drop (around or below 6mm): Promotes a more midfoot or forefoot strike, similar to barefoot running.

Choosing the right drop depends on your natural running style and preferences. It's important to consider this when selecting your running shoes!

Width - What fits me?

Running shoes come in various widths to accommodate different foot shapes. Here's the breakdown:

Regular width: This is the most common width and fits most people.
Narrow width: Ideal for runners with feet that feel too loose in standard width shoes. Signs you might need narrow shoes include extra space on the sides or your foot slipping within the shoe.
Wide width: Designed for runners with wider feet. If your feet feel pinched or compressed in standard width shoes, you likely need a wider option. Look for shoes with a wider toe box to prevent discomfort.
