Why training doesn't make you stronger
Are you wondering why you don't see the results you want and expect despite exercising regularly? Then you might be making this mistake!
Does the increase in muscle mass feel far away even though the gym is your best friend? There could be several reasons why you are not building muscle in relation to how much you exercise. One of the most common reasons, for fitness enthusiasts who do several sessions a week, is the time in between.
- "It's recovery, which I can attest to," says former fighter Madeleine Vall Beijner.
Madeleine Vall Beijner, who runs the Instagram account of the same name, currently works as a PT, martial arts instructor and stuntman.
- "If you train too much and don't give yourself a chance to recover, you can't get stronger because you'll break yourself down instead. Rest and take the easy sessions easy, so that you can really deliver during the hard sessions. Otherwise, you just end up in a constant middle ground and don't progress. Rest so that you can run properly when you do run, then you tend to get better results.
What does a normal training day look like for you?
- It varies greatly. But I do one session in the morning, one in the evening and then I work a bit in between. Either if I train others or if I have an event or shoot. I usually do a slightly tougher, interval-like workout, like fighting or running. A workout that gives more speed. Then I do a gentler workout, like rehab, swimming, dancing or yoga.
