Choosing the right lens color for your ski goggles

Goggles are your eyes' best friend on the slopes. Choose the right color and light transmission of the lens to see as well as possible. Here are the expert's top tips.

Colored lenses on ski goggles not only look cool, they also have different properties for your vision. Lenses with different colors have different amounts of light penetration and are therefore adapted to different types of weather and environments. Jesper Norén is the product manager for Oakley in Scandinavia and an expert in everything related to goggles and colored lenses.

- By having the right lens on the right day, the experience of your goggles will be much better and you will see much more details and contrasts, says Jesper Norén.

What light transmission and color should I have on my lens when there is snowfall or flat light?

- In snowfall or flat light where it is very white outside and difficult to see details in the snow, you need a lens that enhances the details and allows you to see contours. Oakley has developed a lens for this called Prizm Rose. It has a special pink color that is calculated to bring out maximum contrast to the eye in a completely white environment.

What type of lens should I choose for sunshine and clear weather?

- In sunshine, it is more important to protect the eye from bright light, so a lens with an external mirror treatment is usually used to reflect the bright rays away from the eyes so that you are not dazzled. Any lens with a mirror on the outside will be fine for sunshine.

What lens should I buy if I want an all-round lens?

- Oakley has three combinations of flat light and sunshine lenses that are best for all-round use. They are exactly the same in varying light conditions, the only difference is the color of the mirror coating. They have high contrast enhancement and protect your eyes from some sunshine without being too dark on flat light days.

Which color of ski goggles is best? It depends on the weather! The expert from Oakley has the answers.

What is the best way to clean my goggles?

- You should never touch the inside of your goggles, there is a treatment that protects against fog and if you wipe the inside, you can remove this treatment and destroy the function of the lens. The outside is treated with a rope protection and can be wiped. It is best to breathe on the lens so it becomes slightly damp and then dry it with the bag that comes with it. It's made of microfiber and cannot possibly damage the lens, so just wipe it on!

How should I store my goggles between seasons?

- If you want your goggles to last as long as possible, it's best to always take them off the helmet and store them in the bag they come in. This way they are always protected and the strap will not get stretched over time. A good tip is to put them in the bag and then in your helmet at the end of each day, that way you won't lose them.
