We have tried salt yoga!

Imagine you are lying on your back on a towel on a paradise beach - but instead of sand, you are lying on rock salt. When you open your eyes, you don't stare up at a blue sky, but at a ceiling of salt. That's salt yoga!

The idea that being in salt is healing and beneficial has been around for a long time, and is sometimes called halotherapy. However, when you practice in a room covered with salt on the floor, walls and ceiling, it is simply called salt yoga. Available in a few places in the country, we tested yin yoga at the Stockholm Salt Room, which turns out to be an hour of total relaxation into guided meditation.

This salt yoga is suitable for everyone, both those who are stiff as a refrigerator and those who are rubber people. But maybe especially those who need a break. Who are stressed, have too much to do and need a little escape from reality. The positions are not challenging, but you mainly work from the inside out with connective tissue, ligaments and bone structure. Not with stretching and performance. Instead, you are encouraged to send loving thoughts of gratitude to your own body. If you are looking for a physical challenge, this is the wrong place.

There is only a small group in the room, but it is quite comfortable. However, you don't have to be an avid yogi to participate, just curious. One of the participants was even so curious about salt yoga that he got the idea to lick one of the salt lamps sold in the shop, (he said the lamp tasted like salt) but in Sportamore magazine 's view this is perhaps taking curiosity too far.

The salt itself is said to have a number of beneficial properties - and you can actually feel something happening to your body when you are in the salt room. In particular, it feels good in your airways and sinuses. Afterwards, your saliva tastes salty and you may clear your throat a little more than usual. Your lips also taste a little salty. This is not least because during the yoga class there is a fan that spreads microscopic salt particles, which are said to bind negative ions and therefore have a calming effect on the body. If you take a deep breath after a summer rain, it can feel extremely nice, and it is for the same reason, the air is then full of negative ions (but which thus work in a positive way).

The salt yoga is over after an hour that just flew by. Lying there in the salt gave a feeling of weightlessness. Perhaps it was especially nice because the temperature was comfortable (you never got too hot or too cold) and the air was pleasant to breathe.
